The world has gone MAD!
I love reading about new technology and the ways that it's being put to use in our daily lives. It's amazing to me just how our lives have become so driven by information delivered by technology and how that changes our expectations and perceptions.
The past two days I've read articles about how GPS information will soon be widely delivered to cell phones. Starting yesterday, Starbucks launched a service where you can now send a text message with your current ZIP code to "MYSBUX" (697289) and receive a reply text with the three nearest Starbucks locations! (As if you really need a specific location. Just drive three blocks in any direction and you're likely to spot one.) Yesterday Nokia announced that it plans to roll out widespread GPS services in it's new cell phone models, not to mention the new iPhone which will have Google Maps built into it, and no doubt eventually a GPS chip.
I'm sure there are more pros than cons with the new technology, but the interesting thing to me is how we will come to expect a certain level of information at our fingertips, and how we probably take it for granted. We need to remind ourselves every so often that we live in truly amazing times. I try to think about that every time I'm shooting a Saturday wedding and I check the score of the Badger game on my phone. How crazy is that?!
